Biography
Billy grew up in Purchase, New York, just outside Manhattan. In his youth he wanted to play shortstop for the New York Mets, but he also cultivated an avid love of the movies. After attending Rye Country Day School, Billy went on to the University of Virginia, where he graduated in 2004 with a BA in Music and an English minor. While at UVA, he took many film classes, and played jazz and rock guitar in the Charlottesville music scene. After graduation, Billy decided to get hands-on experience in film, and worked extensively as a production assistant in L.A., New York, and Virginia, most notably in Terence Malick’s “The New World” in the fall of 2004. He has also worked in development in the Village Roadshow Pictures development internship program, and has also worked as a script-reader for ATO pictures in Virginia.
Billy is a former semi-finalist in the FADE IN Screenplay Contest for his drama/comedy script “Behind The Scenes,” and a semifinalist in the Austin Teleplay Competition for his MAD MEN spec “How I Learned to Stop Worrying and love My Bomb Shelter.” He is also a three-time quarter-finalist in the Austin Teleplay Competition, for two OFFICE spec scripts and one ENTOURAGE spec. Before moving to L.A., Billy wrote, directed, produced, and edited a short called THE REUNION in New York, having never picked up a camera or gone to film school. The film was screened at the NewFilmmaker’s Screening Series in New York in 2006.
Billy recently completed the comedy short SUPERGLUE starring Adam Kulbersh (The Hottie and the Nottie) Erin Cardillo (Passions) and Dylan Fergus (Passions), which he wrote, directed, and produced, and is currently playing on the film festival circuit. Find out which festivals it’s playing below, and at www.Supergluethemovie.com. He is currently trying to finance the low-budget psychological thriller “The Agora,” a feature he has written and intends to direct. He is also currently taking acting classes at Warner Loughlin Studios in Hollywood, while continuing to develop his own projects.
